The ITTS Module 1 day at Headcorn was fully subscribed. The sixteen teachers and mentors included ten members of the KCACR, with the others coming from a wide area covering West Sussex, Surrey and Buckinghamshire. It was an intensive day of theory sessions interspaced with practical work in the tower, the bells being fitted with tyre muffles for the occasion.
Presenter Graham Nabb stressed the point that the day’s work was only a beginning, to prepare for the real work to come. To complete the course, delegates need to answer a set of online questions about coaching theory. They are then required teach a recruit to Level 1 of the Learning the Ropes scheme, with the guidance of their mentor and to the satisfaction of an external assessor.
There are ringers who find it difficult to accept the notion of paying for formal training but, without exception, the feedback forms were positive and participants had clearly valued the experience. Thanks were expressed to Graham Nabb for his presentation, to the church authorities for the use of the premises, and to Jenny and Tim Munt for supplying refreshments and a fine buffet lunch.
