Mentoring Workshop

Only a small group attended the evening seminar at Kennington on 14 August 2014 but, under Pip Penny’s animated direction, this allowed for lively and informal discussion. Having defined what is meant by mentoring, the group considered the many general qualities expected of good mentor and a few negative traits to be avoided. They then looked at the role of the mentor at each stage of a teacher’s development, with special reference to the relationship that should develop between an ITTS teacher and their mentor. The workshop was a very worthwhile exercise but the Association will need to run more of them if there are to be enough members who would understand fully what is required of them if called upon to mentor a new teacher, and the commitment it entails.
