We have had another couple of busy months with young ringers from Sevenoaks and Seal Chart involved in the media with reporting in The Times on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th March and a broadcast on Sky News on Saturday 18th March (at VERY short notice!) [See previous item]
Saturday 25th March:
The Kent MINI-Ringers met at East Farleigh in the morning. A lovely group of young men came to help with the Rounds and Call Changes and were challenged to ring “Twinkle Twinkle”.
The Young Ringers met at Hollingbourne and rang Plain Hunt on 7 and Grandsire Triples for most of the session.
Sat 1st April:
6 youngsters travelled to Caterham for this year’s regional Striking Contest (SEECON). We had a very last minute change of team member as a result of an injury to one member on the Thursday evening. Our day followed the breakfast tradition and the normal course of the day. The Kent team were drawn to ring first, but acquitted themselves very well with a result of 80%. They were placed 5th in the final order with results of 93% for Essex, followed by 86%, 82%. 81%, 80%, 75% and 69%. Various activities were on offer during the morning and 4 towers were on offer in the afternoon: another lovely day.
Tuesday 11th April:
22 Young and MINI- Ringers took part in the filming by George Perrin for a project commissioned by the Central Council. The object is to produce 3 short videos (2-4 minutes for Facebook; 4-6 minutes for YouTube, and a longer production of 8-12 minutes for YouTube). The session was filmed at Aylesford which proved to be a lovely venue. Filming included the outdoor and indoor setting of the church; ringing on handbells with lesser and more experienced ringers; raising the tenor and ringing rounds for all on the tower bells and a course of Grandsire Triples. Small group interviews were also filmed along with the youngsters “having fun”.
Tuesday 18th April:
A reporter and camerawoman from ITV filmed the D of E learners at Cranbrook and followed up with more filming at Frittenden on 25th April.
Saturday 22nd April:
4 Mini-Ringers met at Frinsted in the morning and 9 Young Ringers met at Marden in the afternoon. They rang a range of methods as requested and 10 yr-old Lottie was challenged to ring the tenor.
