We will start again for 2014-15 (our 10th year!) at the April meeting at Bromley Common. Thank you to those of you who have already joined, and for any others please consider joining and help our district contribute to the County Bell Restoration Fund. In recent years several towers in the district have received grants from the BRF. Last year we had supporters in 21 different towers in the district plus some from outside and sold 115 shares in total, our best supported year yet.

It costs £10 for 1 year with 10 draws a year and at least 4 prizes (£20, 2 by £10 and £5) each time (double the number of prizes in July and December). The only restriction is that you must be aged at least 16 to hold a share in your name. Forms always available from me or they can be printed off from District Website.

We will start again for 2011-12 at the April meeting. Please consider joining and help our district contribute to the BRF. This was our 6th year and we have now passed on over £3000 to the fund.

It costs £10 for 1 year with 10 draws a year and at least 4 prizes (£20, 2 by £10 and £5) each time (double the number of prizes in July and December). The only restriction is that you must be aged at least 16 to hold a share in your name. Forms always available from me or they can be printed off from the District Website.

Once again many thanks to all who have supported us this year, altogether I sold 90 shares (out of a possible 120). Twenty seven different people have won prizes, some lucky ones more than one, representing 17 different towers. ‘Luckiest’ towers with wins for three different members were Ash, Christchurch Erith and Dartford.
Shares are on sale now for 2009-10 with the first draw to be held at the District meeting at Cudham on April 4th.

Once again a big thank you to all those of you who supported the 120 club this time. Shares are now available for 2008-9 (first draw at the April meeting at Dartford) so please continue to support our main fundraising activity for the county bell restoration fund. For £10 a share you not only support this worthy cause but also stand quite good chance of winning a prize.

For 2007-8 I sold 95 shares spread across 78 people from 22 towers. Of these 28 individuals were winners representing 13 towers. This year’s luckiest tower was Dartford. As this was our 3rd season I am pleased to report that most of those who have supported me from the outset have now had at least one win (probability never was my strong point but that’s about what you might expect).

Changing Banks

When the 120 club started 3 years ago I had to sort out an account for the money. I chose the Woolwich largely because there was a branch very close to home, open on Saturdays and the payments were recorded in a book thus meaning at any time anyone could see exactly what I was doing with your money.

And then the Woolwich was taken over by Barclays. Not much changed initially and then they did away with books and counter cheques (making last year’s payment to the BRF was a struggle) and finally everything was rebranded to Barclays. Now we had a new account and in the months following sometimes I could withdraw money with no problems and sometimes I couldn’t depending on whether the staff in the branch knew me or not.

It transpired that following the changeover there were no longer any records of any of our (3) signatures and so in the New Year a formal complaint was entered on our behalf. Letter followed letter to say that I would hear by date… and then a flurry of activity on one day when I had three phone calls in a morning to say we needed a community account and that the paperwork would follow. Now we three signatories had to go through the pantomime of proving who we were all over again something that the branches involved didn’t seem to be very clued up about.

At last I had a letter giving me the new account details followed by a cheque book and paying in book. However one final problem… It didn’t seem to have occurred to anyone at Barclays that the money in the account we couldn’t access needed to be transferred to the new account!

Please please can no one take over Barclays as I couldn’t face going through all that again!

There was an excellent response this year so please carry on with your support. This year I sold 108 shares (some to generous people who immediately put their winnings back into the club) to 78 people representing 22 towers from within the district and a few outside. This year we increased the number of prizes to 48 and 41 of these went to 31 different people representing 16 different towers. The remaining 7 prizes went to the 120 club and so direct to the BRF. The luckiest towers this year were Christchurch, Erith with 8 wins, Dartford with 6 and Eynsford with 4, but to be fair I did sell over a quarter of the shares to these three towers.

We have now been through a whole year, my thanks to all who have supported me in whatever way. In total I sold 94 shares to 74 people from 19 different towers. Of the 40 prizes drawn 33 went to different people representing 15 towers. The 120 Club claimed the other 7 prizes and these have gone to the BRF. The luckiest this year have been Mick M from Horton Kirby who won three prizes; Margaret M from Foots Cray and her husband Barry who won with each of their four shares and the four shares I sold through Crayford that all won. The distribution of prizes was as follows:

Next year expenses should be reduced by around £70, as I will only have to pay the annual fee to Bexley Council (£17.50), I have enough photocopying to last for 4 or 5 years and the draw balls were a one off expense.
