Cinque Ports Ringing Centre
Every Saturday morning there’s a rare opportunity for extended practice on a solitary bell, to improve bell handling, raising and lowering. The sessions are St Mary’s, Dover, starting at 9.30 and lasting for up to an hour, with expert advice available if needed. Following the beginners’ session there’s tuition for competent rounds ringers who are starting to learn methods. This practice finishes at 12.30. It’s a fair distance, but a number of Rochester District members have found the journey worthwhile enough for repeat visits. Email for a street plan showing the location of the Centre, or telephone 01304 823217.

Now that winter is upon us the ringers at Dover are making good use of the curtains to keep warm on the gallery. This means that they can no longer monitor activity in the church during the ringing, so it has become necessary sometimes to lock the outside door. Would visiting ringers please note that, if they do find themselves locked out, there is now a bell push mounted at the top right hand corner of the door for them to attract attention. Be patient and someone will come to let you in.
