The Lewisham District hosted a county-wide Youth Practice in late February at the small church of Saint Martin of Tours, Chelsfield. Attendance was fairly good, with twelve young ringers from the Lewisham and Tonbridge Districts making an appearance.
The afternoon consisted of a huge range of ringing, from rounds and a few Call Changes through to Plain Bob Major and the first successful attempt at “Banana” Doubles by the Lewisham youth band. Several helpers made the day a huge success, including Philippa Rooke (Chelsfield) who kindly let us use the bells, Jen Thomas (Tonbridge District) who brought along a lovely set of handbells, and of course Sue Cameron and her wonderful cakes!
Upcoming youth events include an opportunity to ring on St George’s Day at Bromley (Ss Peter & Paul) for a quarter peal of Plain Bob Triples and a small youth outing, also around Bromley, in late May.
