I am delighted to share the following news following the ART Award Ceremony yesterday evening.
The Sarah Beacham Youth Award
This award is for youth or school groups, and university societies who are successfully recruiting, retaining and developing young ringers.
Winner: Birmingham Universities Society of Change Ringers
Runner Up: Kent Young Ringers
Prize of £600 – sponsored by the Sarah Beacham Memorial Trust
Many thanks to Chairman, Neil Jones for nominating the Kent Young Ringers for this award and to the KCACR for all their support over the years.
A personal note: Sarah Beacham and I both toured for the first time with the Society of Roving Ringers in the summer of 1985. I have memories of her sitting on the bunk above me, learning blue lines for Surprise Major methods after a long day cycling through the Cotswolds. We met again on the Cambridgeshire tour the following year; Sarah had just done her A Levels and was looking forward to going to university in the autumn. Sadly this was not to be as she tragically died following an accident with a car whilst we were cycling from Castle Hedingham in Suffolk.
