Some sad news has just reached me from Neil Jones, Tower Captain at Rochester Cathedral:
‘Basil Edwards, a former member of the Bobbing and Rainham bands, unfortunately died during the Easter period.
Although not prolific in his ringing in terms of peals or quarter peals, he was a very capable ringer on 6 and 8 bells and was for a time the Captain of the Bobbing band. He also helped with the training of the Newington (Sittingbourne) band of ringers in the late 1980s, a band which remains active today. Unfortunately a stroke in the 1990s prevented him from actively taking part in any further ringing, although he still maintained an interest in the exercise.’
His funeral will be at Hartlip Methodist Church on 1st May, further details will be posted here once they are known.
