On Saturday 8th March 2025, the first call change competition was held in the Maidstone District since 14th March 2020 – just before the global Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
7 teams turned out to ring in the glorious spring sunshine at Mereworth where we were kept fed and watered by the local band who had been baking up a storm, including bell-shaped shortbread (which was yum!). For a lot of ringers, this was their first time ringing in a competition with a fair few having only learned to ring in the last couple of years so it was great to see them taking part and having fun along the way.
Our judges for the morning were Callum Clark and Adam Moore who found a nice sunny spot at the back of the churchyard. The results were as follows, the top 3 spots being very close:
Team | Rang | Place | Score |
East Malling | 1st | 1st | 91% |
Maidstone, All Saints | 7th | 2nd | 90% |
Barming | 3rd | 3rd | 89% |
Marden | 5th | 4th | 82% |
Mereworth | 2nd | 5th | 74% |
Boxley | 4th | 6th | 64% |
Otham | 6th | 7th | 20% |
Thanks go to Mereworth for hosting & providing refreshments, and to Callum & Adam for judging. Here’s to next year when the Improver’s Trophy will also be awarded again!
