Kent Young Ringers’ Christmas Outing: Thursday 27th December 2018
Amuse- bouche:
1 Quarter Peal of Plain Bob Major at Edenbridge with an average age of just under 18 years. This was Amber’s first on 8.
Starter on 6: Hever, where we welcomed Anna, Lucy and Tess Hargrave for their first taste of ringing with the group. 17 young ringers filled the tower with enthusiasm and a variety of ringing: Rounds and Call Changes, Plain Hunt x5, Plain Bob Doubles, Stedman Doubles and Brussels Sprout Minor to get us in the Christmas mood.
The first choice of Main course saw us venturing over the border into Sussex to ring on the lovely 8 at Withyham; ringing options here included more R & CC, Plain Hunt x7, and the giddy heights of Cambridge and Bristol S Major. (No adult help required for CSM and just one for Bristol)
Huge slices of delicious cake and liquid refreshment sustained us at the Tulip tearooms in Chiddingstone where a lovely vibrant ambiance prevailed before finishing off a lovely afternoon on that most pleasing 8. Milestones for various people were achieved here. Caitlin in particular should be pleased with the progress she made…smiles all round!
Evening Practices or family duties then called to a number, but still 9 youngsters and a couple of oldies were able to participate in a final course at the Rochester Cathedral practice. Plain hunt x9 and Grandsire Caters rounded off the day nicely for Sam, at least!
A delightful and convivial day all round; many thanks to everyone who participated and to the towers where we were able to ring.
