The bells at Milton-next-Gravesend have been silent for sometime. Gareth Lawson contacted the secretary in the summer of 2006 to establish why, and found out that a louver had blown in during a storm and fallen on the wheel of the 3rd causing damage. As a result pigeons made the belfry their home – some became trapped and died. Gareth liaised with the vicar who agreed to close up the hole and clear the belfry of the dead pigeons and mess so that an inspection could be made with a view to making repairs.
Just before Christmas our district chairman, Alan Driver viewed the belfry and took photos of the damage, which he relayed to Brian Butcher (Bell Restoration Officer). There does not appear to be any other problems and it seems the repair work will be carried it very soon. Watch this space!
