A few years ago Whitechapel Bell Foundry were asked to inspect the bells at Wormshill. Whilst looking to see what improvements could be made it was decided to replace the treble with a new, bigger bell. This was cast a few weeks ago by Whitechapel in memory of Michael Nightingale (who put in the current ring of six). It is planned to be hung imminently (watch this space for details).
In the meantime maintenance work is taking place in the belfry, and includes converting some pullies from plain to ball bearings.
Chris Trafford Jnr, who is overseeing the project said, “The work won’t make the bells perfect but we hope it will improve them a great deal”.
