We were very sad to receive this posting from Dickon Love recently:
I am very sorry to have to inform you that Nick Chesson passed away this evening [30 April], aged 64. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer for the past four years and had undergone an operation in hospital near his home in France, which unfortunately was unsuccessful.
Nick was from the Isle of Sheppey and having learned to ring at Eastchurch in 1964, he led the revival of the band there in 1991. He was a staunch member of the Tunstall band, serving as captain of the ringers from 1993 to 1995. He was part of the band which spearheaded the campaign to recast these bells, and indeed, he conducted the last peal on them. His professional skills as a banker were put to good use serving two terms as Treasurer of The Kent County Association 1977-80 and again 1987-90. He was a keen supporter of Sittingbourne FC, both as a fan of the football and advisor to the administration (so when he called the Referee a “banker”, he knew what he was talking about!).
Our thoughts are with his widow, Marion, and his family in Kent. His funeral is expected to be held in France in due course.
