It is with sadness that Jonathan, Sarah and families announce the death of their beloved father Raymond Large (Ray) who died peacefully after spending two days in the Truscott Manor Nursing Home near East Grinstead.
Ray was in no pain at the end of his life; he was half muffled and rang down perfectly in peal. Ray started ringing at SS Peter & Paul, Tonbridge with Walter Dobbie and met his wife Margaret in the same tower.
A service of the life of Raymond Large will be held at St Swithun’s Church, East Grinstead at 12pm on Tuesday 29th August (day after the bank holiday). There will be open ringing before the service from 11.30am and from @ 12.45pm after Ray’s hearse has left St Swithun’s. Ringers should contact Betty Green (Tower Captain, St Swithun’s, East Grinstead) on 01342 327544 or 0753 610 6309 to confirm if they would like to ring and/or attend a Wednesday practice night in advance.
Ringers are warmly invited to Ray’s wake reception at the Chequer Mead Arts Centre, De la Warr Road, East Grinstead. We advise to park opposite Chequer Mead Arts Centre while you are in East Grinstead as St Swithun’s Church Car Park is small and will be mainly taken up by cars for people attending with less mobility. If you arrive early there is a coffee bar and toilets at the Arts Centre; the Arts Centre is only a short walk to/from St Swithun’s Church.
