Message from Libby Alexander, who started the Ringing for England campaign which encourages the ringing of bells on St George’s Day.
“The Campaign Ringing for England is now in its 5th year and I approached the BBC with the hope they might just give it a mention or two on national television. Well to my joy and hopefully also for all you wonderful ringers, they are going to feature it – live – throughout the show on Thursday 23rd April. I was asked to choose a selection of towers around the country that could ring out during the show ie: 7 – 7.30 and a few others that would ring in the morning so that they could film them and beam them through during the show. This is now all in place and I do hope you will be able to watch it and take delight in having your skills and dedication rewarded.
“In addition I have received messages of support from the Bishop of London, the Mayor of London, the Lord Mayor of London, Lloyd Grossman from the Churches Conservation Trust, and others. Also the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers will be taking part throughout the country and English Heritage have also just announced they will ring bells from their properties in support of the Campaign.
“It is in great thanks to you all that we have come so far for which I am most grateful. Could you please pass this good news on down to your towers.
I wish you All the Best – Libby”
