SEECON 2025 hosted by Bucks and Berks

4 car loads of bleary-eyed, still sleepy 12-18 year-olds left Kent bright and early (05:30 – 06:30 depending on home location) on Sat morning, 12th April. For once the M25 provided a smooth and easy journey with NO hold ups and we all arrived at a Maidenhead Toby Carvery at approx 08:00 to wake up and become more human over a much-needed breakfast.  The hash browns were apparently particularly tasty and Oscar cleared his plate nicely. Food was much appreciated at various points throughout the day: the churchyard at Twyford provided a beautiful venue (definitely worth a visit) for our lunchtime picnic; free cakes and snacks at the last tower were greeted with acclaim; we finished off the day with very tasty pizza and pasta in a little Italian Pizzeria with a most stunning view: the back of a petrol station and side view of an MOT workshop!
Our Young Ringers came from the Ashford, Lewisham, Rochester and Tonbridge Districts and thoroughly enjoyed a “fantastic day out all round, with great opportunities for ringing at some lovely new towers”, with some “great  car chats and conversations”. We were slightly disappointed with our result, being placed 5th out of 7 teams, but this was in part due to some confusion over a new set of rules . As so often seems to happen (!) this was the first time the whole team had rung together. We were also drawn to ring our contest piece first, but then the pressure was off for the rest of the afternoon and we could enjoy the beautiful Berkshire countryside. Many thanks must go to Peter Jasper for arranging a terrific day
