‘Five learners and six helpers arrived at Stone for the training session on raising and lowering in peal.
After introductions we got on with raising and lowering the bells in peal – we had one learner in at a time and there were enough helpers to have someone standing behind. During the coffee break I initiated a group conversation – what were the learners finding most difficult to master and what advice did the experienced ringers have? Raising and lowering in peal takes us back to the basics of bell handling and we discussed what could go awry and how to bring your bell back in to place. We then recommenced and the learners put the tips into practice. There was some obvious progress by everyone and one of them achieved a very impressive lower indeed.’
