On a rather chilly morning on Saturday 16th February, 20 ringers from the District met at Newington-next-Sittingbourne for a general practice session on the 12cwt six.

After getting the bells up in peal, general ringing followed ensuring all those in attendance were catered for based on their abilities and what they wanted to have a go at.  Methods including plain hunt, Plain Bob, Bastow/Bistow (don’t think we quite worked out which was the correct name for what we were ringing!), Grandsire, Stedman, Little Bob and Cambridge Surprise Minor were all rung with touches attempted in some cases.

Halfway through the morning, we all downed tools to enjoy a nice warm cuppa & biscuits provided by Jackie Dyson, Tower Captain.  A very welcome treat with it being colder in the church than outside!

The session was very successful and enjoyed by all, with at least a few of those present going home having tried something they wouldn’t normally have been able to!  Thanks to Jackie for allowing us the use of the bells & providing tea and to Helen Webb and Diana Wraight for running the session.  A couple of photos and a video are shown below.

The next practice is at Shorne on Saturday 16th March – come along and support the District!
